The Green Room

1First phase: the world today

1) Students are divided into small groups with 15 students each.

2) Students sit in the room of the world today and discuss what they see in the boards:

• Pollution monster.

• Waste monster.

• Water monster.

2

3) Students watch a movie that is proper to their age, and then they continue the discussion on the pollution issues at hand.

Second phase: preserving nature

1) Discussion about the importance of preserving nature: the role of trees with regard to purifying the air, preserving humidity, their impact on the amount of rain and the soil conservation.

2) Discussion about the importance and how to preserve the quality of the indoor environment, air cleanliness, as well as the cleanliness of the home environment in every detail.

3) Explaining the process of sorting, recycling and reuse according to explanatory boards, covering each of the following:

• Plastic

• Minerals

• Glass

• Paper

• Fabric

Third phase: water conservation

• Discussion about the importance of water in our lives, about the drinking water scarcity.

• Explanation of the importance and necessity of water conservation in our daily lives.

• Explanation of how to use some simple household tools for water-saving (two illustrations).

• Example of how to use sensors taps and installations for water saving, purify it at home and reuse it for irrigation.

3

Fourth phase: energy conservation (in everyday life)

1) Electricity

• The use of lamps with time limits for entrances and stairs.

• Measuring the spent electricity of four lamps of different types:

  • Incandescence
  • Halogène
  • Neon
  • LED

• Test on thermal insulation through double vitrage

• Explanation of the use of thermal insulation in walls.

• Explanation of the importance of using curtains with an exhibition of some modern curtains that pull down due to sensors linked to air or light.

4

Fifth phase: renewable energies

A. Doing three experiments showing how to:

1) Convert wind energy into electrical energy while explaining the " courant induit" principle.

2) Convert light energy into electrical energy with an explanation of (photovoltaic cell)

3) Convert light energy into thermal energy (solar panel)

B. Explanation about applying the solar furnace.

5

The sixth phase: the better world

Leaving the room after promising to protect the environment.

6

The seventh phase: the real world

Finally, a visit to outside where a realistic world is better in terms of using alternative energies (solar water heater, kinetic air energy generator), in addition to an entertainment game (ladder and snake) designed for the issue of protecting the environmental.
